What’s not to love about Pizza. I could live on pizza if I could. It is seriously one of my most favorite food. Unfortunately, it’s not one of the healthiest food. With all the dough and cheese and everything else that makes up a delicious pizza, it is definitely not something that should regularly be part of a healthy lifestyle. I have made it my personal mission to try to find healthy alternatives to food that I love so I can still indulge in them without feeling guilty about it and I am happy to inform you that I have managed to come up with a healthier version of Pizza and more importantly, it is still delicious.
The pizza sauce is also homemade and this recipe is the most delicious pizza sauce I have ever had. I got the recipe from Pinterest but modified it to make it more to my taste. The original recipe can be found here if you would like to try that instead. My version of the recipe is below. I promise you will love this pizza. You can substitute toppings if you prefer. I use Pepperoni and Jalapenos because those are mine and my family’s favorite pizza toppings.
I use Organic Whole Wheat Thin & Crispy Pizza Crust which can be found at Whole Foods and more recently on Amazon!!!. I was so excited when I found it there that I bought 5 packets because I was scared it wouldn’t be there for long and sure enough I just checked today and they ran out already! I will keep checking though and will update this post with a link once it becomes available again.
Homemade Jalapeno Pizza Recipe
1 Packet Organic Whole Wheat Thin & Crispy Pizza Crust- there’s 2 crusts in the bag and I use both because the crusts are really thin.
1 Bag Organic Mild Cheddar Shredded Cheese
1 Bag Applegate Uncured Turkey Pepperoni
3 Jalapeno Peppers- Sliced
2 Teaspoons Dried Oregano
2 Teaspoons Garlic Powder
1/2 cup Diced Onions (optional)
Homemade Pizza Sauce (Recipe below)
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
- Place both pizza crusts on a pizza tray.
- Sprinkle some cheese between the two crusts (optional)
- On the top crust, spread the Pizza Sauce
- Sprinkle the cheese on top of the Pizza Sauce
- Add Pepperoni
- Add the Diced Onions
- Add Oregano and Garlic Powder
- Add the sliced Jalapeno Peppers
- Place Pizza in the oven and bake for 10 minutes.
- Take out of the oven and serve immediately
Homemade Pizza Sauce Recipe
6 cloves of Garlic- Minced
1 28 oz Muir Glen Organic Tomato Sauce
2 6 oz Organic Tomato Paste
1 1/2 Teaspoon Dried Basil
1 1/2 Teaspoon Oregano
1/4 Teaspoon Sea Salt
1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper
1/4 Teaspoon Onion Powder
- In a medium sized pot set to medium-low heat, add oil and garlic and cook until fragrant. Add the rest of ingredients and stir until combined.
- Simmer for 30 minutes.
