“God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made Mothers”, Rudyard Kipling
Mother’s Day is here already which is crazy because this year seems to be flying by at record speed. But this is a special day because it’s the one day that is set aside specifically to celebrate Mothers. Yes I know that you should make the Mother in your life feel special everyday but we all know that life gets so chaotic sometimes that we forget to make time for the people that are most important to us. Days like Mother’s Day, remind us all to stop for a day and make the extra effort to make it special for the Mother in your life. My definition of Mother doesn’t just mean you or that person gave birth to a child, you could be a Mother figure to someone that is not your biological child, it could be someone that has always been there for you no matter what, it could be a co-worker or friend or relative that’s been like a Mother to you, it could even be your dad, it’s basically anyone that is loved like a Mother and deserves to be honored on this day.
Being a Mother can sometimes be a thankless job, it doesn’t pay a salary and the hours are unpredictable, you perform different roles sometimes in one day and you get no paid days off. Why would anyone want a job like that? Only a Mother would do a job like this everyday and thanks to wine, keep doing it everyday. I’m only half-joking about the wine of course :-). I am proud to be the mom of a beautiful and sweet four year old boy. He is my everything and I feel honored and proud to be his mommy every single day.
On this special day, kids if they are old enough and dads if they aren’t, scramble frantically wondering what to buy or do for the special Mother in their lives. I remember my first Mother’s Day four years ago. I was excited to be a mom and even more excited when I realized this meant another day that meant presents (don’t act like you don’t like receiving presents). Yes! I said to myself as May approached, another thing I can add to the “pro” section of my ‘reasons for having children’ list. I’m kidding, of course there was no list :-).
A week before Mother’s Day, still excited about the approach of this special day, the thought suddenly hit me. My child wasn’t even a year old and had no idea what was going on and here I was putting all this pressure on my poor husband, who had lost his mother several years previously, to make Mother’s Day about me and buy me presents. I wasn’t his Mother and yes I had labored for hours to give birth to our son but that didn’t change the fact that I wasn’t his Mother. Why not do something for myself to celebrate this day. Being a mom is hard work and I had at that point barely anytime to do anything for myself. I decided at that moment that I was going to pamper myself. Do something for myself that would make me happy. Now you guys know me well enough by now to know what is guaranteed to make me so happy I could skip through a meadow of sunflowers. Yes, shoes!
And this is how the “Mother’s Day Shoe” was born. Every Mother’s Day, I treat myself to a beautiful pair of shoes. My awesome husband does buy me something or plans something on behalf of my son to recognize the day but my shoes are the icing on the cake, or since we are trying to be healthy here, the low-calorie salad dressing on my Kale Salad.
This Mother’s Day shoes are these beautiful pair of Nine West Cage Pumps in Natural Fabric. They have a 4-inch heel and are so comfortable. My sister bought a pair and wore them to an event we both went to and the moment I saw them I knew I had to get a pair as well. I wore them out already because I wanted to be able to give you guys feedback in this article. I wore them out to dinner and to a Lounge afterwards and it didn’t feel like I had pointy toe heels on at all! Usually after a couple hours, pointy toed heels start to make their presence known, but not these shoes. They also come in Black and I am trying hard to resist the temptation of buying those as well. I’ll let you know how successful I am. On Mother’s Day, or the Saturday of Mother’s Day weekend which is when my hubby and son will be taking me out to celebrate, I will pair them with a grey high-waisted pencil skirt and a red bodysuit and these shoes compliment my outfit perfectly if I do say so myself 🙂
The link to the shoes on the Nine West shoes is below in case you would like to make this your Mother’s Day gift to yourself as well 🙂
Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful Mothers reading this article and especially to my mom. Don’t forget to pamper yourself, do something special for yourself. We spend so much time caring for others that we forget about ourselves.
