We’ve all heard the usual stuff about how good water is for you. It is essential for our health, it flushes out toxins, it promotes weight loss, it helps you sleep better, improves your skin complexion (that has yet to work for me), it will make you rich, you know, it’s the best thing since…well, water.
Well, if it’s so good for you then why doesn’t it taste as good as wine! That’s what I would like to know. If it tasted as good as wine, I will for sure drink eight glasses a day, I may even drink ten for good measure. I know, some people love the taste of water. My four year old son prefers water to juice, yes he really does, and for that I consider myself lucky. My husband sips water like its a delicacy and I know plenty of people that just love love love water. I am not one of those people.
For many years, I would only drink water if I was really thirsty and my body craved it. This would happen maybe once a week. Instead I would drink juice or tea. Of course this was not good for me at all. Apparently, if you wait until you are so thirsty and your body is asking for it, to drink water, it means you’re already dehydrated. I needed a plan of action to consume more water, so I bought one of those water bottles that you can fill with the amount of water you’re supposed to have in one day and I tried my best to drink one of those every day. Guess how successful I was at that. Yea, I would still have half the bottle left the next day.
Drinking water became even more important when I started working out regularly. When you sweat a lot you have to replenish the fluid loss with water preferably. It was a bit easier for me to down a bottle of water immediately after my workout because I was obviously thirsty then. But, what about the rest of the day.
I needed to find a way for the water to taste better for me in the hopes that this would encourage me to drink it. I tried powders like Crystal Light but not only did they have a weird after taste for me but the list of ingredients were scary and in my opinion befit the health benefits of water. Now what do I do. I tried cucumbers but it didn’t really make a difference to the taste and gave the water a weird texture and it was also a pain in the butt to have to cut up cucumbers at work. I then tried lemons, I liked the taste better with lemons but I didn’t like having the entire lemon slice in my water which meant I had to squeeze the juice from the lemon and likely squirt some in my eye in the process! Gah!
And then it came to me! Lemon juice! Why not use Organic Lemon Juice?! The only ingredients in Organic Lemon Juice are Lemons and I can easily have a bottle at work and add a couple drops into my water. And so, this is how I’ve been drinking water ever since.
The thing is though, even though the water tastes a lot better with lemon juice I still wouldn’t say I enjoy drinking it. So, this is the crazy thing I do, I have a 28 oz bubba water bottle at work and I resolve to drink three of those a day. But if I sip the water slowly throughout the day, there is no way I will get through all of them. So, I schedule my water drinking, two before 9 a.m. and one after lunch. When I get in to work in the morning at 7 a.m, I down the first bottle, walk to the break room and fill up. At 8:30 a.m. I down the second bottle and fill up for the last time. After lunch, or during, I down the third and final bottle. Whoop! Whoop! Quota reached!

Guess what happens after all that water has been gulped down in one go? Yes, you got it, multiple bathroom trips. But who cares right, I got my water in for the day and I can go on with my life and I see this as a fitness opportunity as it makes me get up from my desk and walk to the bathroom.
This may or may not be the best way to go about the whole water drinking thing, but it works for me. I say again, if it’s so good for you, it should seriously taste at least like a wine cooler…I’m just saying.
